Adult Sail Training


Courses for adults - 2018 dates 

The RYA adult training pathway is an ideal introduction to the sport. You will learn the fundamental knowledge required to get afloat under supervision. Working your way through all 3 stages will take you from the basic understanding of sailing techniques and some background knowledge to confidently taking a boat afloat and going places.  The course will include 

RYA Level 1

This is great way to get started sailing at Lee or refresh old skills. Starts with an introductory evening session in the main clubhouse to meet the instructors, a theory session focusing on clothing and what to expect. Followed by a two day on water couse over one weekend .
  • Basic understanding of boat handling techniques 
  • How to sail in all directions
  • Practical skills and awareness of launching and recovering from Lee
  • Basic seamanship
  • RYA Start sailing logbook and beginners handbook included in the price 

RYA Level 2

This course takes you to the next stage enabling you to progress quickly from beginner to expert in a controlled, safe and enjoyable environment. Candidates must have completed level 1. See course dates below. Course includes:
  • Progress and practice your rigging, launching skills from level 1
  • Sailing in all directions
  • Capsize recovery and essential safety knowledge

RYA Level 3

The final stage in reaching a competent and confident feeling afloat . Coaching of level 1 and 2 skills and taster sessions from the advanced modules. Candidates must have completed level 1 and 2 plus have had a seasons regular sailing in between courses. This course runs only if there is a demand for it.

The course dates:

RYA Level 1 Adults


Course 1: 10 & 17 June (there will also be an introductory session on a Thursday evening, 7 June)



Course 2: 18 & 19 August. (There will also be an introductory session on a Thursday evening, 9 August)



RYA Level 2 Adults

(Candidates must have completed level 1.)

Course 1: 8 & 15 July. (There will also be an introductory session on a Thursday evening, 5 July)


Course 2: 8 & 9 Sept (plus intro on Thurs eve, 6 September)









RYA Level 3 Adults

(Candidates must have completed level 2 plus 4 months active sailing experience.)

4th & 11th August



RYA Day Sailor Skills

RYA Basic Navigation Theory Course

RYA  level 1 - £80;  RYA National Sailing Scheme Logbook and RYA Start Sailing Beginners Handbook. 

RYA level 2 and 3 - £75  per course
